TOWN OF MOUNT PLEASANT
NOTICE OF SPECIAL TOWN MEETING
TO INCREASE AND SET TOWN LEVY FOR 2013
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that a special town meeting of the Town of Mount Pleasant, Green County, Wisconsin, will be held at the American Legion Hall, 316 East Coates Avenue, Monticello, Wisconsin, on November 19, 2012, immediately following completion of the public hearing on the proposed 2013 town budget, which begins at 7:00 p.m. on November 19, 2012.
The special town meeting is called for the following purposes:
1. To consider adoption of a resolution by the town meeting endorsing a resolution of the town board of supervisors that authorizes the town board of supervisors to build a new town garage and hall, including acquisition of a buildable site for a purchase price not to exceed $25,000, engineering costs, primarily specifications for bid, not to exceed $35,000, and total construction costs not to exceed $400,000, which includes a contingency allowance of $20,000, and sale of the town’s lot at Pratt Road and East Lake Avenue in Monticello.
2. To consider adoption of a resolution by the town meeting endorsing a resolution of the town board of supervisors that proposes that the town levy for 2012 (collected in 2013) exceed the state allowable levy limit under Wis. Stat. §66.0602 by (a) 19.29%, which would equal a dollar increase of $24,000 for annual debt service for the building described in (1) above, and (b) by 10.04%, which would equal an increase of $12,500 for annual debt service for a new fire truck being purchased by the Monticello Fire District, for which the town is obligated to contribute. The cumulative percentage increase in the town levy would be 29.33%, and a total of $36,500.
3. To approve the total town tax levy for 2012 (collected in 2013) pursuant to Wis. Stat. §60.10(1)(a).
At this town meeting eligible electors are any U.S. citizen over the age of 18 who has resided in the Town of Mount Pleasant for the 28 days prior to the special town meeting. If an elector is not a registered voter he or she will be asked to show identification and proof of residence.
